When we were finished playing B Team
football at Paschal our sophomore year, we decided to have a beer bust
since we had won the Fort Worth B Team Championship. We commissioned Don
Herman, our team manager, to get the beer. Well, he got the Pearl Beer
and had it in the trunk of his car that Friday morning. Coach Turner
found out about the "To Be Beer Bust" and made Don tell him where the
beer was hidden. Well you know the rest of the story, the team was in
serious trouble and faced the fear of Coach Turner's paddle and guess
what, we were awarded that privilege. For years we never knew who
squealed or who took the beer. We finally found out at one of our class
reunions. After Don told us, we always kidded Don at our next class
reunions that we wanted our beer . After Don died, his family gave us
six Pearl Beer twelve packs at the family and friends get-to-gather
after the funeral and advised Bubba Guantt, Jerry Brooks and me that Don
want us to finally get the Pearl Beer after he was gone. We finally got
our beer but Don got the final trick on the team!
